Tourism tax committee members needed

Langley council forming advisory group

The Langley City Council is forming an ad hoc committee to help evaluate and rank the requests for tourism funding that are distributed from the state’s tourism tax program.

The council is seeking a representative from the restaurant sector and one from the accommodation sector to join the working group.

This ad hoc committee will only need to meet before the annual city budget period and if unbudgeted requests occur.

As the level of tourism has increased in Langley, the amount to be allocated has also risen because it’s done on a percentage basis, according to a statement from the city.

Similarly, the numbers of requests for funding have risen as well.

Council members Dominique Emerson and Bruce Allen will be the tourism group representatives.

The group will review the current application forms and develop a ranking system. After ranking the requests, the group advises the full city council that make the final allocation decisions.
