A pair of candidates have applied for open at-large positions on the Clinton Community Council.

A pair of candidates have applied for open at-large positions on the Clinton Community Council.

Both Carol Doering and Kristy Macarro have long ties to the island and Clinton.

Doering said she has lived in Clinton for 11 years and grew up vacationing to the island in the 1950s, then did the same when she became a parent in the 1970s. She recently retired from a career with Sound Transit and touted her service on a task force looking to clean up Aurora Way in Seattle.

Macarro said her family was the Orrs, who homesteaded much of Clinton and for whom a road is still named. She just moved to Clinton and is an attorney.

The council did not vote on the candidates at its Jan. 25 meeting, and will likely install new members at its next meeting, Feb. 22.

Related to the council’s membership, its South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District representation changed. Parks Commissioner Mark Helpenstell assumed new duties and asked new Commissioner Dennis Hunter, a Deer Lake resident, to take over on the Clinton council. Both men attended the recent meeting.

The council is still seeking an active representative from the South Whidbey School District board of directors.

CORRECTION: An earlier version incorrectly identified one of the candidates.
