Cara Helen Collins: August 4, 1942 – March 18, 2019

Cara Helen Collins was born Aug. 4, 1942, and passed away on March 18, 2019 at her home at Cultus Bay.

She grew up in her grandparents’ house and enjoyed swimming, crabbing, fishing, farming, square dancing and bringing in wood for the cook stove and fireplace, as did all their children. She worked at the Space Needle as an elevator attendant and at I. Magnin.

She fished in southeastern Alaska, planted coffee plants and picked coffee beans in Guatemala after the earthquake there and ran a yard care service.

Cara and her husband Jim established a home above the site of her grandparents’ home. They worked together in the yard care business, fishing and farming next door.

Cara overcame cancer within a year, but endured pain and some disfiguration after having had surgery.

Her only regret was that she did not have more time with her beloved husband Jim. Her one desire was that, one day, they would be together again when they are scattered together on the outgoing tides at Cultus Bay.

The family will have a private memorial at their home in Cultus Bay.

Arrangements have been made with the assistance of Whidbey Memorial Funeral and Cremation Service.
