Gregory David Smith

Gregory David Smith

Greg passed away at the age of 79 on Dec. 4, 2015 at Whidbey General Hospital. Declining health limited his activity the last two years of his life. Dorris Trussler of The Homestead adult family facility provided care and quality of life for those two years.

Greg was born in Seattle to Emely Brown Smith and Leo Smith on May 26, 1936, the eldest of two children.

Selling newspapers and being a shoe shine boy at Fort Lewis were his fondest childhood memories.

After graduating from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1954, Greg joined the Air Force, spending most of his tour at Lakeland Air Force Base in Colorado. After the military he went into electronic sales and later real estate. It was at S&W Realty in Seattle that he met Pat Bullene. They were married in Tacoma on May 26, 1977.

In 1973 Greg purchased a tool rental business on South Whidbey that became known as Greg’s Rent-A-Tool which he owned for 20 years. Following the sale of the business Greg provided computer set up service and counseling.

Greg was active in Kiwanis on South Whidbey and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet).

He is survived by his two children from a former marriage, Maura McConnick and Sean Kennedy, both of Colorado. He also leaves two step-children, Michael and Mark Bullene, six grandchildren and his wife of 38 years, Pat. He will be missed.

At Greg’s request there will be no services.
