James L. Dalgarn

James L. Dalgarn

James was born in Columbus, Ohio, April 13, 1924, the only child of George and Edith Dalgarn. He died Jan. 23, 2016 in Bellevue.

Jim attended Norwood High School in Norwood, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army three days after Pearl Harbor and was awarded two Bronze Stars, a member of the “Greatest Generation.”

Jim met Irene “Nikki” Slebodnik while attending Michigan State University. He graduated with a degree in business in 1949 and married Nikki on Sept. 30, 1950 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was employed by American Cyanamid for over 30 years, the consummate salesman, a respected professional and mentor to many. Jim enjoyed all things chocolate and derived great pleasure from restoring his 1931 Model A.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Nikki; children, twin daughters Mindy and Missy of Galena, Ill.; son Christopher (Suzy) Bothell; and grandchildren, Zachary and Madison.

Even as dementia overwhelmed him, Jim never lost his attributes of courtesy and kindness. A gentle man and a gentleman whose memory we will cherish forever. Memorials may be sent to Evergreen Hospice.
