James Martin Theel Sr.: Dec. 31, 1942-Oct. 26, 2017

James “Jim” Martin Theel Sr. died unexpectedly in his home in Coupeville, Wash. on Oct. 26, 2017 at the age of 74. Jim is survived by his wife Victoria Theel; his three children Marty, David and Trina; his four grandchildren and beloved miniature pinscher.

Jim was born in Oak Park, Ill. on Dec. 31, 1942 to his parents George E. and Antoinette P. Theel as an only child. He graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelors of science in botany. Jim continued in his education going back to Arizona State University to receive a masters in public administration. With his education, he continued onto careers at Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ramada Inn as a director of corporate security, Emmanuel Pines Free Methodist Camp as the executive director, Free Methodist Church Headquarters Planned Giving, Azusa Pacific University as director of facilities, planning and construction. After retiring on Whidbey Island, Jim received his final degree from Azusa Pacific University with a doctorate of leadership in higher education. In retirement, Jim served the Whidbey Island community on various boards, committees and volunteering.

Jim and his wife enjoyed traveling together exploring their heritage and family backgrounds around the world. He, also, loved spending time with his family and friends, photography, watching Formula-1 racing and the ships passing by their home in the Puget Sound.

His memorial took place on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, Wash.
