Joyce Catherine McClelland

Joyce Catherine McClelland passed away on Nov. 8, 2002, at Careage of Whidbey.

She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Queens, Long Island, N.Y., to Joyce and Carl Bjerre. She moved to Los Angeles with her family as an infant. She moved to Hawaii in 1953 and to Freeland in 1989. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1951. After her children were grown, she operated her own interior design company on Oahu and Maui. She was active in animal welfare groups such as Maui Friends of the Animals and was a co-founder of the WAIF thrift store in Freeland.

She is survived by Stew McClelland of Langley, her husband of 49 years; a daughter, Tracy C. Stevens, and Tracy’s daughter, Kelli Kahui of Marysville; and a son, Scott McClelland, of Index.

At her request, no services are planned. Memorial remembrances can be made to any animal welfare program.
