Leo Baldwin: July 23, 1920 – Oct. 22, 2018

Leo E. Baldwin was born in Great Falls, Mont., the seventh of eight children of Rev. Leo E. Baldwin, senior, and Mary Hart Baldwin. Leo graduated from Willamette University in 1942 and married Constance Anderson the following December.

He served in World War II as a conscientious objector.

In a long career path, Leo was a parish minister, an inner city social worker, a fundraiser for hospital campaigns and a pioneer in the field of senior housing. He divorced in 1975 and moved to D.C. to work with AARP.

He then married Marion Lowe from 1977 until her death in 2006.

Leo moved to Whidbey in August 2006. He served on boards, volunteered, and contributed to Saratoga Community Housing, Creekside Terrace Condo Association, Langley United Methodist Church and Island Senior Resources. With his vibrant mind, Leo remained well-informed about professional interests, current affairs and social justice.

His wit, his stories and attentiveness will be greatly missed. He is survived by one sister, Frances Zimmer (age 103), his four children and their spouse/partners: Christina Baldwin and Ann Linnea, Freeland, Wash., Carl ansd Colleen Casey Baldwin, Green Valley, Ariz., Becky Baldwin Dougherty and Dan Dougherty, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Leo Eric Baldwin and Kathy Rickard of Anchorage. He is grandfather to Kyle Dougherty, Bryn Dougherty, Colleen Dougherty Vickers, Erin Baldwin, Alicia Baldwin, Brandyn Baldwin, and great-grandfather to Reilly James Baldwin and Leo Christopher Vickers. He is step-grandfather to Sally Schimpf and Joe Villarreal, and their children Jaden and Sasha.
