Lloyd Edwin Carter, 93, lifelong resident of Whidbey Island died Oct. 4, 2019 at his home in Freeland, Wash.

Lloyd was the widower of Loretta, and they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage, travel, friends and family together.

Born March 22, 1926 at home in Midvale, now Clinton, he was the son of Chester and Doris Carter and little brother of Glenn. He graduated from Langley Class of 1944 with stories we cannot mention here.

Lloyd served his country in World War II as a medic ambulance driver in Okinawa. He was a proud Marine the rest of his life: Semper Fi. After serving, he returned to his beloved Whidbey Island and built the Langley Auto Body gas station, where the building still stands today, in Langley.

Lloyd was a jack-of-all trades, but his favorite time spent working was for the South Whidbey Island School District as Superintendent of Transportation and Special Services.

Lloyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and giving away the “extras” to family and friends.

Lloyd and Loretta traveled to many exciting places around the world. Their favorites: Hawaii and snowbirding in Arizona.

Lloyd was a devoted father. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn (Steve) Avery; son, Steven (Cheri) Carter; Debbie Neil; Alan Neil; DeeDee Curtis; Donny Neil; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Grandpa Lloyd always looked forward to Mondays with Austin Carter.

Lloyd is proceeded in death by his first wife, Margarete (Brown) Carter, his parents and brother and many family

and friends. Lloyd will be deeply missed by those still here, and Happy Hour will never be the same.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday Oct. 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.

He will be interned at Bayview Cemetery next to his beloved Loretta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be

made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, where Lloyd and Loretta were members since 1993.
