Richard Purl Berkshire: July 29, 1949 – March 6, 2019

Richard Purl Berkshire (Rick) went home to his Heavenly Father on March 6, 2019. There he joins his late wife Alice Berkshire, his parents Lewis and Marie Berkshire, his sisters Pauline Wade, Sharon Howard and Darla Jean Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Berkshire, of Freeland, Wash.; his sister, Sandy Clifford, of Spokane, Wash.; and his brother, Clifford Berkshire (Cathy), of St. Maries, ID; son, Vic Berkshire, of Camano Island, Wash.; son, Chris Berkshire (Toni), of Ellensburg, Wash.; and son, Duane Berkshire, of Post Falls, ID.

In addition, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Nicole Senior, of Freeland, Wash., and stepson, Trevor Senior, of Langley, Wash. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rick was born in Wallace, ID on July 29, 1949. His parents left Idaho and moved to the Gig Harbor area in Washington where he grew up and graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash.

After graduation in 1968, Rick enlisted in the Navy. He received an honorable discharge on July 1, 1978. He moved to St. Maries, ID where he met and married his late wife, Alice.

There they raised their three children.

When Alice retired, they moved to Whidbey Island. Rick and Alice were married for 36 years. Rick married his current wife, Barbara Ann, on July 23, 2016.

Rick loved projects whether in the garden or in the house he was always busy.

He enjoyed crabbing and fishing. Rick was a wonderful husband, brother and father. He was devoted to family.

He will desperately be missed by all of his friends and family.

His family is especially thankful for Hospice of the Northwest for all their kindness and compassion, with a special thanks to his nurse, Alesha.

A memorial service, followed by a reception is 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 State Route 525, Freeland, WA.
