Thelma Sophie Burklund: July 9, 1920 – April 18, 2017

Burklund

Our beloved Thelma Sophie Burklund passed away peacefully in the comfort of five of her granddaughters on April 18 at the age of 96.

Born on July 9, 1920, in Clinton, Thelma was a Whidbey Island resident until shortly after high school, when she moved to the Seattle area, where she remained until her death.

Thelma and her husband, Frank Burklund, had five sons. Raising them was her priority in life. Thelma and Frank owned bakeries in the Oak Harbor and Seattle areas.

Thelma was also a skilled typist and volunteered her services for several organizations. Her favorite hobby was traveling the world, with Hawaii being her most visited destination.

She is survived by sons Frank Jr. (Sharon), Wayne, Mark (Loralee) and Evan (Lynn); nine grandchildren Annie, Mary, Tracy, Olivia, Stephanie, Josie, Katie, James, Joseph; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Frank Sr., her son Eric, and two sisters. Thelma touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 24 at Evergreen Washelli. Remembrances may be made to the Autism Society of Washington.
