Murder story is compelling | LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

I found Brian Kelly’s March 3 story on the murder of Russel Douglas to be very detailed and interesting. Enthralling, really. A very nice job. I am also very impressed with the thoroughness of the investigation. The detectives are to be congratulated. The body of circumstantial evidence is massive, and I wish them the best in getting convictions.

My interest in the story is somewhat more than that of a curious reader. Although I never met Russel, his father Jim Douglas and I have been longtime friends. We were both runners when we lived in Juneau, Alaska. I have very fond memories of going out on training runs with Jim and a mutual friend Andy Grossman, as well as participating together on several Klondike Relay teams.

Jim and I have lost contact since we both left Juneau, and I confess that I only learned recently of the circumstances of Russel’s death.
