To the editor:

Mr. Sparkman, you owe the people of Langley, readers, those active in the city and on the South Whidbey blogs an apology.

At the city council workshop Sept. 6 in Langley, you, councilman, while representing the city of Langley in an official capacity, referred to those that post their opinions on the South Whidbey Record Web site as “Crazies,” I am truly insulted. For a number of reasons.

Congratulations, Mr. Sparkman — you have just insulted anyone who holds the First Amendment to be true. Would you like me to refer to you as un-American? You have certainly acted like it through your thoughtless, ignorant comment.

So you just insulted everyone’s First Amendment rights. What’s up for act two?

You also insulted anyone who is interested and taking an active role in having the courage to speak out and express their opinions about Langley. What a way to talk about your own citizens and constituents.

Finally Mr. Sparkman, you yourself are a “Crazy.” For wasn’t it just a few weeks ago that you yourself posted a nicely spun “Wag the Dog” commentary on the very site that hosts all us Crazies? Therefore, adding yourself to our roster.

You made the comment while representing the city of Langley. You owe us an apology. You are an embarrassment to the term “city councilman.”

Both you and Rene Neff owe the people you represent a public apology.

Micheal DuKaine
