We’ll vote yes for WGH | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
I am writing in support of Whidbey General Hospital.
In late June of 2008 I was admitted to WGH with a blockage. I went through several tests to determine the nature of the blockage, and the best course of action. It was determined to be cancer (not colon cancer), and surgery was the only remedy.
For several days before and after the surgery I could not, of course, eat. I remember prior to the surgery having a roommate who enjoyed a late evening movie, including popcorn, with her husband. It was a very uncomfortable situation.
In January of 2009 a second surgery for cancer was needed, and once again I had several roommates.
The care I received at WGH was excellent, but the issue of not having a private room was frustrating, difficult and at times quite embarrassing. I also was distressed by the fact that the nurses transferred information to one another during shift changes right outside my door, and could be heard.
Beyond all that, having had two major surgeries at WGH and several minor day procedures done, I am well aware of the need for updating the surgical areas.
In this time of financial crisis, I realize that stretching our tax dollars is not a pleasant thought. However, my husband and I fully intend to vote in favor of this bond issue.
