Letters to the Editor

Terrorist? Try traitor instead | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

After reading Dan Freeman’s “military justice” opinion, I briefly questioned my military service defending the freedom of speech he enjoys. I can only hope that he’s writing these outrageous opinions to gain attention or increase readership of the Record.

Dan is correct. Pvt. Manning is not a terrorist.  He is a traitor that shamed his uniform and country while committing treason. By leaking classified documents, he put our brave military men and women at risk.

An unfortunate fact of war is things like collateral damage and friendly fire accidents. Anyone who has been to a war zone and fought for this country and our freedoms understands this. Our freedom and liberties don’t come cheap; they should be understood and cherished.

Manning is no hero. He committed treason and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent for his crimes against this great nation.
