To the editor:

To the extraordinary community of South Whidbey, thank you for your outpouring of support in the wake of the diagnosis and passing of our dad, Dr. Ric Prael.

The letters you took the time to write and send; the food and flowers you left lovingly at our front door; the philanthropy, service and citizenship extolled by you in his Hometown Hero article; the memories and proclamation you shared with abandon at the community gathering and dedication of the “Ric Prael Administrative Center” at WICA on May 1, all bear the mark of an exceptional community that we are each fortunate to call our home.

To have felt his affection for the community of South Whidbey returned — tenfold — is a blessing and a gift we are grateful for and will treasure.

For the joy you continue to scatter in his memory, thank you.
