Thanks for raising awareness on homelessness | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
The recent article about the Ryan’s House couch hop event did a great job of highlighting the seriousness of homelessness in our community.
The Readiness To Learn Foundation has been providing assistance to homeless children, youth and their families in South Whidbey, Coupeville, Oak Harbor and Stanwood-Camano since 2001.
During this last school year 484 students, including 131 unaccompanied youth, experienced homelessness in our county. RTL strives to stabilize these children by providing social, emotional and tangible supports that help homeless children and youth stay in school while their family situations are in flux.
Awareness of these students and families is the first action toward being able to respond to their needs. Ryan’s House is a great example of the community working together to address the shelter needs of homeless youth.
