Good Cheer Harvest Festival was a great party | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
Last weekend showed another great example of terrific community support for working toward a hunger-free community.
Good Cheer held its annual Harvest Fest, which was a good time for all with various local musicians, dynamic speaker Graham Kerr, events for kids and tasty bites of food made by three local nonprofits. The Soup Kitchen was there in force with the dynamic Dan, and Damien was the head cook for the Good Cheer. Whidbey Island Nourishes was represented by a fabulous chef, Kris Phillips, who also was the chef at the recent WIN fundraiser.
Many thanks go to Kris Phillips for her winning recipes (which can be picked up at the food bank), Shirley Collins and Barb Schlitz for the incredible food they made which helped raise money for the food bank.
A friendly competition is part of the fundraising — the winner being whoever sells the most bites of food. This year Whidbey Island Nourishes won the “coveted” Golden Platter Award again!
Thanks go to the staff at Good Cheer and to all who came to support the fabulous food bank. It was a great party and we look forward to the cook-off next year.
