Making a plan for a safe ride home | LETTER TO THE EDITOR
December 27, 2011 · 6:53 AM
To the editor:
I would like to personally invite you to participate in an action that has been started by Brian Grimm and Sarah Schmidt Berger called Safe Ride Home. You can learn more about the project by visiting the Facebook page that Sarah has created of the same name.
Our plan is to create a fund that will pay for a cab ride home for anyone who finds him or herself in an unsafe position. This would include more than just alcohol related situations. However, we would market this effort to teens, young adults and their parents and the establishments on Whidbey where alcohol is served.
This will not work if stigma or punishment become attached to this program. Choosing a safe ride is a good choice and that’s what we want to emphasize. There can be no negative repercussions for choosing to take advantage of this service.
For more information, email Brian Grimm at bjgrimm@whidbey.com.
