LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Many ways to help the needy

To the editor:

Regarding Paulette Becker’s letter to the editor dated April 21, has she heard about Displaced Orphans International (http://displacedorphans.com/blot/4).

Two Langley residents, Greg and Lynette Wineman, travel to Thailand yearly to rescue children from bondage. They also build orphanages and provide medical care.

Recently, they had their annual fundraiser. Jeff and Julie Lauderdale were there and gave generously.

I understand that the Winemans are somewhat conservative.

There are many ways to help the needy. What shouldn’t be done is to exploit world poverty to advance a particular politician. Encouraging hate and promoting bigotry is not in the best interest of our society.

It would be nice if all would choose to stick to documented facts rather than the demonizing brush of hate and baseless rhetoric.

Did she attend this fundraiser, or contribute in any other way? Going to Thailand is a luxury. Supporting Thailand through private nonprofit organizations is a necessity.
