To the editor:
Bright and early Tuesday morning, April 24, Rotary of South Whidbey hosted a grant giving ceremony at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club. Wanting to give back to their community, they invited many South Whidbey nonprofit organizations to join them for breakfast and to receive checks. In their gifting, they acknowledged that not all are as fortunate as they are.
Rotary President Terry Rose announced the recipients. Karen Franklin, Rotarian Grant coordinator, said, “For your efforts to alleviate hunger, to lend comfort in the process of aging, to provide safe housing for the homeless, to train youths and help prepare them for a fulfilling life, to beautify and enhance our wetlands, providing a safe habitat for all creatures, we applaud you.”
Individual checks as well as certificates of appreciation were given to Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund as well as several other nonprofit organizations, many of which are part of the Help Network on Whidbey.
We are extremely grateful to the members of Rotary for their support. Their generosity will help us continue to pay for medical expenses our neighbors cannot afford. As much as we would like to “go out of business” we don’t see that happening anytime soon. By the end of April Friends of Friends had helped 140 South Whidbey residents.
