LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Businesses step up for South End teens

May 18, 2012 · Updated 3:46 PM

To the editor:

Kudos to Caldwell Banker Tara Properties Community Fund, Windermere Foundation and Rotary Club of South Whidbey, which all have recently made generous contributions in support of The HUB after school program for teens.

Those funds have helped The HUB expand its operation from one day a week to two days (Wednesdays and Fridays) until the end of this school year in June. In addition, the money has given The HUB steering committee a financial boost toward its goal of being open five days a week for the entire 2012-13 school year. We applaud the community spirit of these organizations for providing this assistance.

Individuals and organizations wishing to contribute can do so by writing checks to: The HUB at LUMC. Send those checks to P.O. Box 374, Langley, WA 98260. The HUB can also use volunteer help with preparation of the weekly hot meals. For more information on volunteering, contact Frankie Petitclerc, HUB Manager, at 221-0969 or TheHUB@whidbey.com.

Many thanks to this generous South Whidbey community for its understanding that “it takes a village to raise (or guide) a child.”

BRUCE ALLEN, TERRI ARNOLD, KATIE BARNETT, JIM BALKOWITSCH, LARRY FOX, HANK AND YVONNE HALL, SHAWN NOWLIN, FRANKIE PETITCLERC AND ERICK WESTPHAL
