LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Commissioner defies the law

May 22, 2012 · Updated 2:12 PM

To the editor:

Is Kelly Emerson above the law? If you or I were in violation of a county regulation and refused to acknowledge the county’s authority and were assessed fines, do you think the county would not take action?

How long has it been since Kelly Emerson was assessed fines? Do we have to sit by and watch her grandstanding to show that she can defy county rules?

Judge Hancock threw out her suit against the county. He ordered her to pay court costs. The taxpayers paid for her suit. She refuses to obey the court order. The county was advised it would cost more money to get her to comply and pay.

As taxpayers do we have any rights when it comes to a sitting commissioner’s flagrant defiance of county laws?
