LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Not running a business

July 27, 2012 · Updated 3:43 PM

To the editor:

After attending four candidates’ forums in the past two weeks, one thing is clear; most of the “challengers” believe the county should be run like a business.

Government is not a business! It is designed to provide services that “business” is either unable or unwilling to provide. Business has a profit motive. Government has a service motive.

The two county commissioners, Homola and Price Johnson, have done the best job possible to balance the budget and provide the services mandated by law in light of the present fiscal challenges. I’m voting to retain them in office.
