LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | In memoriam: Micah the dog

October 12, 2012 · Updated 4:20 PM

To the editor:

On Wednesday, Aug. 29, at approximately 9 a.m., my beloved golden retriever, Micah, was hit and killed at the intersection of Sills Road and Staats Drive by a loud vehicle traveling north on Sills. The driver was driving way too fast around the dangerous “S” curves on this part of Sills.

I could actually hear him or her speeding up on the approach to Staats Drive because I was running down my driveway calling for Micah who must have seen a deer or other critter on the road. This driver slammed into Micah and left him dead at the side of road while quickly speeding off.

Two wonderful strangers, Sheryl Clough and Bill McGeary from Clinton, stopped and helped me bring Micah to Useless Bay Animal Clinic, where he was pronounced DOA. I don’t know what I would have done had these two dear people not helped us, and I am deeply grateful to them for their kindness and caring.

Whoever hit Micah and ran away, shame on you!! The least you could have done was stop. Micah was always smiling and brought enormous joy into the lives of everyone he touched. I and his many friends are grieving his loss deeply.

KATE NOBLE

Clinton
