LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Beach deal must happen

To the editor:

What the heck is the matter with the county commissioners? They paid $60,000 for a piece of property that has no public access, yet they say they cannot take on a donation of a beautiful, sandy, easy access beach for the public to enjoy.

My sister, Emma (Ohm) Endicott, made a deal with Frank Robinson to buy the 400 feet of Mutiny Bay beach, in which he could keep 100 feet and give 300 feet FREE to Island County for everyone to visit. This agreement came with the condition that no building could be higher than a picnic table. This, with the seasonal port-a-potty, ensures maintenance will be extremely low and easy to maintain.

In the last 80 years, the county commissioners have horse-traded and made deals that have affected public access to the beaches. For example, what happened to county access at Greenbank, south of the berry farm?

This deal for more public beach access needs to happen.
