LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Caregivers turn out for conference

January 28, 2013 · Updated 4:06 PM

To the editor:

Many organizations, businesses, and individuals from our Whidbey Island community joined efforts to support the first Whidbey Island Caregiver Conference, “Building Your Caregiver Survival Toolkit,” late last year. The board, management and staff of Senior Services of Island County, the conference planning committee, several major sponsors, refreshment and prize donors, vendors, presenters, and volunteers all joined efforts to convey to our caregivers how much they, and their efforts, are valued in our community.

The event was attended by approximately 90 family and paid caregivers, which was a great turnout for the first event of this kind on the island.

The day was devoted to providing information, prizes, fun and camaraderie to those who do so much for their loved ones and clients. This first conference laid the foundation for future conferences, through which we will add new “tools” to assist our caregivers.

Senior Services of Island County and the Caregiver Conference Planning Committee wishes to convey our tremendous gratitude to our many community partners who helped make the conference a success. We are so very fortunate to be a part of such a special, caring island community.

We look forward to future conferences and providing additional tools for our wonderful caregivers, in years to come.

Cheryn Weiser,

Director, Senior Services of Island County

Caregiver Conference Planning Committee
