Letters to the Editor

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Many to thank for Sound Waters

To the editor:

With full and grateful hearts, we thank you all for making Sound Waters 2013 a resounding success. To the 556 attendees, we thank you for your eager participation, lively curiosity and thoughtful engagement.

Life-long learners and problem solvers all! And a huge thank you to the heart and soul of Sound Waters, the presenters who taught with passion and expertise, volunteering their time and efforts to share their knowledge gained through years of commitment.

Our sponsors provided critical financial and in-kind support, making the whole thing possible. Thank you to Puget Sound Energy, Oak Harbor Yacht Club, Deception Pass Sail & Power Squadron, South Whidbey Yacht Club, Puget Sound Partnership, the Town of Coupeville, Windermere Real Estate, Whidbey Coffee, Noel Nic-Fergusson WL Photo, Prairie Center Red Apple Market, Best Western Plus in Oak Harbor, Oak Harbor School District and Sustainable Whidbey Coalition.

A special thank you also to Oak Harbor High School’s teachers who generously opened their classrooms to us, the staff who provided essential technical expertise, and the leadership, ecology and catering students, who served with first-rate skill and care.

And, of course, a deep and sincere thank you to all our WSU Island County Beach Watchers, Waste Wise, Lighthouse and 4-H volunteers, and WSU Extension support who with the dogged determination of golden retrievers, gave hours and hours of time to plan, procure and deliver everything needed to make Sound Waters an exciting and smooth running event.

In short, we are so proud to be a part of a community who cares deeply, works hard and believes together we can preserve our incredible island heritage.
