To the editor:

Island life is not impersonal.

We are reminded again and again of our interconnectedness and the strength of community; it is one of our best assets.

Visitors see the Sound framed by magnificent mountains and wide beaches; rimmed by temperate rainforests and fields. Islanders know there is much more.

We would like to thank the professionals, our friends and acquaintances who have come to help us after our recent accident.

We are extraordinarily lucky to be alive after an impaired driver totaled our car.

Our grateful thanks go to Dr. Margaret Sorrel, Laurie Keith, Dr. Rob Rorex, Karen Epifano, Joanne Rouse, Chris Diggins, Matt’s Import Haven and Main Street Collision for moving their work schedules to take care of us.

Others have called and e-mailed us, holding us in the light and their thoughts.

Thank you to each and to all of you.

And, if you are feeling ill, don’t get behind the wheel and drive.

Sue Ellen White and John Goertzel
