LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Jets: Love ‘em or leave ’em

Editor:

In response to Michael Monson’s letter May 4. When did you move to or around Coupeville? The Navy was here first, so you knew what you were buying into. I was a jet engine tech in the Air Force and dealt with running engines all the time. The EA18G and the EA6 fly directly over my house all the time and there is little difference in the noise.

I moved to Whidbey Island in 1989 and if the Navy flies over my house it makes me feel safer knowing those men and women are watching out for our safety. I get tired of people buying a piece of property in the noise zone, then complaining about it. To quote another letter writer, I would rather hear American jets than Korean jets, and its not easier to move a jet than a house.

A jet needs a runway, support equipment, personnel, housing for the personnel, fuel depot, and on and on! So if you have a problem with the Navy, or the noise, I hear Mount Vernon is a nice place to live.
