South Whidbey Record

LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Headline thoughtless, poor taste

September 26, 2013 · Updated 2:19 PM

What a poor choice of words the South Whidbey Record used on Wednesday, Sept. 18, to describe a lifetime of memories and mementos that Maralie Johnson, her daughter and granddaughter lost, when their home burned to the ground last May.

Are people under the impression that she wanted the clean-up to take this long?

After paying regular monthly premiums for years, this widow was left to battle her reluctant insurance company by herself. It has taken this long to settle the claim.

This front-page story has added insult to injury. Where is the compassion in the Langley community?

While many people have been generous to the Johnson family during this time, it is as though The Record is highlighting the irritation to the community rather than showing compassion to a family that has lost everything they have ever owned.

If this has been an annoyance to the neighbors, imagine how the Johnson family feels.

Maralie Johnson did nothing to deserve

front-page ridicule. She was not even contacted before this story was written.

Shame on you South Whidbey Record for your lack of compassion.
