Time and temperance have passed since the public got its first look at the Island County Fairgrounds proposal.
At the time of its unveiling, some thought yea but some thought nay. Have we now studied this proposal? Have we talked to our neighbors? Have we talked to others of a different opinion? I have and have come to the conclusion that most of the proposal is very sound. This property is a cherished part of island history and the memories made here by thousands of islanders must be preserved.
The future will not wait for any of us; we either welcome it or we answer to it. Is now the time to welcome the future to our cherished past? Yes, my friends and neighbors, it is. Is this proposal thoughtful? Yes, it is. Could it really happen? Yes, it could. To say no to the future is like saying tomorrow does not exist.
My dear friends and neighbors, let us move to the future together with those changes and adaptations as agreed to. Let us build some memories for the next 90 years that would be as cherished as the last 90 have been. The future is ours to share, and I for one would like to share that future with a facility that welcomes many more generations to our Whidbey Island home.
