LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Diking district residents are angry, misinformed
January 16, 2009 · Updated 4:23 PM
To the editor:
I consider Bob Kohlwes a very good friend and an excellent fisherman. It is interesting that every time a Diking District 1 commissioner sneezes, it gets published in the newspaper.
I have written seven letters concerning the misinformation that appears in the newspaper regarding the infamous 6,000 gpm pump and only two were published. I know others on the beach have had the same experience.
The Citizens in Support of Useless Bay Community are naturally upset and angry over the secretive methods used by Diking District 1 in forcing through the purchase and installation of the pump. They would not even wait for the results of the Department of Ecology water samples. Were they afraid of the results? Earlier this week, a biologist living on Sunlight Beach found five dead flounder in Deer Lagoon. They probably died from the rain.
One last point is that now it seems as if the pump is benefiting all the surrounding neighborhoods, Sunlight Beach, Useless Bay Golf & Country Club, Sun Vista and Olympic View Manor. Maybe if you include all those neighborhoods, the population has increased in the last 20 years, but not that much on Sunlight Beach.
The problem is that this should have been done right in the first place, and then no one would be losing sleep.
