LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Article too dramatic
April 22, 2009 · Updated 10:26 AM
To the editor:
A few words in response to the letter in the Saturday, April 11, South Whidbey Record, by Richard L. “Dick” Guise, Langley. Mr. Guise is entitled to his opinions, even lecturing, and others should be allowed theirs with an exchange of listening, tolerance and facts. Regretfully, it appears that Mr. Guise does not have all the facts from the Youth Connection regarding the release of condoms — such as the required classes and restrictions.
In speaking with the Langley United Methodist Church, of which I’ve been a member for 30-some years, I found no evidence that he’d had contact with officials of the church such as the lay members, pastor, church council or congregation, or had requested discussion.
Regretfully too, I need to express my opinion that when the subject of the distribution of condoms first appeared on the front page of the South Whidbey Record, it was treated too much as a “news story” and the important research information was lost in the presentation.
I would suggest that the South Whidbey Record try again and be more thorough with the facts and less dramatic in their write-up.
