LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Judge is appreciated
June 16, 2009 · Updated 2:16 PM
To the editor:
Island County is fortunate and proud to have had Judge Alan Hancock’s dedicated service as a Superior Court Judge for 20 years. His intellectual ability combines with a sense of fairness in his decisions. He is also to be appreciated for his leadership in many judicial committees in Island County and in Olympia.
How would I describe Judge Hancock? He would have been best friends with Burke, Franklin, Pitt and Shakespeare. His keen understanding of the law and his sense of fairness qualify him to be in an elite group of legal minds. His reverence for the U.S. Constitution is to be admired. The essence of Judge Hancock’s legal decisions can be found in the statement by Edmund Burke: “There is but one law for all, namely, the law which governs all law, the law of our Creator, the law of humanity, justice, equity, the law of nature and nations.”
