To the editor:

Here is the info on just what Island County is getting from the Federal Stimulus Package. This is from a Washington State government Web site (http://www.recovery.wa.gov/map/default.asp#):

Total amount of stimulus money — $24,609,584.

Education — $2,599,721.

Health and Human Services — $27,775.

Highways and Roads —- $1,878,496.

Public Safety — $49,592.

Energy — $0

Environment — $0

Military Bases — $20,054,000.

So out of more than $24 million, only about $4.5 million is not being funneled into the military! I thought that this stimulus was to help the people of Island County.

Why is the military getting over $20 million to “build bases”?

This is on top of the hundreds of BILLIONS of our tax dollars that the Pentagon is getting! More than 50 percent of the entire federal budget! They can’t use any of that money to “build bases”?

This is just more of the same old industrial/military complex rip-off that Eisenhower warned us about.
