LETTER TO THE EDITOR | It’s been noisy after hours
To the editor:
I have lived very near the rod and gun club for 11 years.
I knew from the get-go it would be noisy. It’s the shooting after 9:30 to 10 p.m. that I find so annoying.
Some months ago, I had an opportunity to talk about the nuisance factor with someone who said he was on the board of the gun club. I don’t remember his name, but he said there were no funds for policing the club area and no gates to keep non-members out, and that trespassing has been an issue.
The week before the Fourth of July, the marquee showed “Closed 4/4 & 4/5” but the gunfire went from 9 a.m. to after dusk. Maybe someone should define “dusk.”
Perhaps the trespassing issues have been resolved with a new gate and resident watchman. That’s good.
My friend, Ms. Mansfield, who lives on Sandy Point, confirmed with me that someone at the gun club was indeed shooting the night that gunfire shattered the “bliss.” Sorry, not firecrackers.
Someday, I’m going over to the gun club because I’m curious as to the kind of weapons that are fired. Sometimes it sounds like VERY big guns.
And, yes, we are surrounded by noise, but it is the decibel levels of the noise that make the difference. One of my pet noise peeves is loud radios. Why do people working outside with radios blasting think that everyone in the neighborhood wants to hear their “music”?
