LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Let’s start by staying healthy

To the editor:

We are encouraging our friends and neighbors on South Whidbey to become informed on the healthcare reform issue and to do the research to understand the complexities.

We’ve been reading the postings on the what-next list with interest, and want to thank those who have attended the town hall meetings, and thank the League of Women Voters for hosting them. Thanks to local MoveOn members who are making sure Sen. Maria Cantwell and others who represent us in Congress know that we’re counting on them to support healthcare reform with a real public health insurance option that will help expand coverage and bring down costs for all of us.

We’ve been especially interested in the comparisons made with other countries which find the U.S. system lacking. We feel compassion for those who can’t afford healthcare, and grateful that now as seniors we at least have Medicare.

There are resources online to check, including MoveOn.org, and the Campaign for America’s Future has been helping to lead the fight for real healthcare reform. Let’s start by staying healthy — eat fresh local organic food and get plenty of exercise.
