To the editor:

Have you been in Freeland lately? I’d like to pass along congratulations to all the volunteers who have been working on the planter-pathway along Main Street.

This project has been ongoing for many years, and thanks to community efforts there are now lovely planter boxes, with plants, which create a safe walking area and bicycling path, protected both from through traffic along the street and from cars leaving and entering street-side parking lots. This is a great example of non-profits and county officials working together for the betterment of the community.

As a pedestrian advocate supporting walkable communities, I am very pleased to see this project come to fruition. As a result of these efforts Freeland is prettier, safer and responsibly supporting the use of alternative transportation methods less reliant on foreign oil.
