To the editor:

I don’t think you can scare people more than by having $250,000 disappear from an escrow account the bank recommended, or by watching the names in your list of stocks change without warning, or by submitting a long-term care claim for your blind mother and being denied within four days without even so much as a phone call, or by continuing to wonder why, if all the bad guys were Saudi’s, did we attack another country without provocation, or by finding out that stock- market rating agencies were just kidding and not so much as one single head has rolled.

And that’s just the list that affects my friends and family.

Somehow, the unlikely threat of a mad bomber pales by comparison, and the really sad part is there is no one to tell. Apparently, there really is a new world order, or disorder, as the case may be, and America is taking its place as just another banana republic.
