To the editor:

After 30 years of island living, I am still amazed at the warm generosity of island residents to total strangers.

On behalf of Irma Arhontas and her late husband Tom, a sincere thank you to the many volunteers who contributed in countless ways to the Tom Arhontas Mobile Turkey Unit.

We had young people peeling potatoes, multitudes of home-made pumpkin pie, much-needed delivery drivers and scores of people who manned the assembly line to put out Thanksgiving dinners to nearly 140 people.

My utmost gratitude goes to the core committee of Saul Kitz, Joan Smith, Art Taylor and Jamie Canby.

This couldn’t happen without your hard work.

We are all truly blessed to live in such a caring and giving community.
