To the editor:

You came. You danced. You bought “symbolic beads of support.” And we are very appreciative.

The board, staff and volunteers of the South Whidbey Commons thank this generous community for the support you gave to our “Fix the Floor” benefit dance on Feb. 13.

The very successful evening brought us up to the 70-percent point of the $100,000 we need to repair the foundation and upgrade the electrical system, plumbing and heating for our coffeehouse and bookstore on Second Street in Langley.

We are grateful for our hosts, Beth and Gary Smith of Mukilteo Coffee Roasters, to Chef Jess for her inspired food offerings and assistance with the evening, to Western Heroes for playing their danceable and always- energetic music, and to the irreplaceable Jim Freeman for being our master of ceremony extraordinaire. We feel blessed to live in this caring community.

View our construction progress on www.swcommons.com, check out our blogspot at www.islandcoffeehouseandbooks.blogspot.com or stop by the South Whidbey Commons’ coffeehouse and bookstore site to view the progress first-hand.

Thank you for showing us your heart.
