Greenbank Farm should fix scheduling conflict | LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
The Highland Games have been held at Greenbank Farm for 11 years, always on the second Saturday of August. For 11 years, the games have booked the same weekend (second Saturday) and never had a problem with the farm management understanding that “second weekend” could possibly mean “first Saturday.”
The farm even had second weekend in August posted on its own Web site, with phone numbers if anything needed verifying.
The games rent the entire property and brings an income to the farm, and to local vendors, that far exceeds any other event at the farm. I understand the bride’s feelings, but find it hard to believe that she would expect to have the entire acreage of this large farm to herself.
The games are traditionally a Saturday event or a full weekend event, if large enough. The logistics of a Sunday event on the island wouldn’t work for competitors, vendors or visitors. Imagine trying to get 3,000 people and cars off the island late on Sunday.
The games would be mostly finished by the late-afternoon time the bride planned to be married.
I think this can be worked out, and that the farm should be accepting its mistake and working to fix it.
