It’s easy enough to complain about government — city, state, federal. We all do it at one time or another.
The Letter to the Editor titled: “Time for moderate discussion on OLF,” in the 3 August 2013 of the Whidbey News-Times merely amused me. The writer clearly demonstrated little to no understanding of the reason for doing FIELD Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP). To err during FCLP is to merely land a bit short and roll through the painted outline of a carrier’s flight deck.
Everybody has their strengths. Everybody has their weaknesses. Don’t we all wish we had more of one than the other.
The recent lawsuit, filed by a local citizen’s group, alleges the Navy has not complied with the National Environmental Policy Act in relation to its use of the Outlying Field south of Coupeville.
We have heard talk in the community that the lawsuit seeks to close OLF, and that has caused concern for those whose lives are connected to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
In what was supposed to be a moment of triumph for the Port of South Whidbey this week – the water equivalent of a groundbreaking for the marina improvement project – instead resulted in yet another setback.
An 80-foot barge nearly sank, dumping its on-board crane into the depths. There it sits, collecting sea life at the bottom of South Whidbey Harbor.
The Whidbey Island Area Fair has something for everyone.
There really are few places like Whidbey Island during summertime.
Well, here I am.
It seems like just yesterday I was new to Whidbey Island and begging for a job at the South Whidbey Record. Now, a handful of years later, I’m the editor with the reins in my hands.
