Whidbey youth can learn firearms safety

The Central Whidbey Sportsmen’s Association will present a free youth firearms safety training session this week.

The class is free for youths ages 8 to 16. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

The class will cover firearms safety, proper handling of firearms, sighting, marksmanship, how to read a target and firearm laws.

The class also includes firing range instruction and much more. Instruction will be provided by retired firearms instructors from the Island County Sheriff’s Office. Firearms and ammunition will be provided. Youths must be accompanied by an adult.
