Girls cross country bests third-ranked Lakewood

Keely Craig ran her personal best to win the girls 5K race at Sultan, and the speedy Falcon led sixth-ranked South Whidbey girls cross country to victory over third-ranked Lakewood. Craig crossed the finish line in 21 minutes, 3.82 seconds.
Teammate Chantal White was close behind. White, a senior at South Whidbey High, finished second in 21 minutes, 16.73 seconds.
Lillianna Stelling, Emily Martin and Jessica Cary placed sixth, seventh and 10th, securing the team’s win with 26 points to squeak past Lakewood’s 29 points.
The Falcons’ boys team finished a distant second behind Lakewood with 54 points to Lakewood’s 18 points. Senior boys runner Ben Saari returned and placed seventh with 18 minutes, 30.63 seconds for South Whidbey.
South Whidbey travels to Lakewood High School on Saturday, Oct. 9, for the Hole in the Wall Invitational. Races begin at 10 a.m.
