South Whidbey Pee Wee team plays for title

The South Whidbey Pee Wee youth football team is undefeated with six wins, and the team will play in the championship game Wednesday in Mount Vernon.

The Pee Wee team of 20 players between 6 and 8 beat La Conner 18-6 to advance to the playoffs.

In the semi-final game against Lakewood Maroon, the South Whidbey squad won 28-6.

The team plays for the crown at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School.

According to Bree Nelson, a team mom, this year is the first time in 16 years that the South Whidbey youth football team will play in the championship game. Wes Crain is the head coach, and is assisted by Jordan Nelson and Shawn Eveland.
