Whidbey Crabs perfect in season opener
March 26, 2011 · Updated 10:27 AM
The Whidbey Crabs baseball team opened its inaugural season with a 5-0 victory against the Mountlake Terrace Sox.
The Crabs won the game in Mountlake Terrace in six innings because the game was called due to darkness. Pony League games typically are seven innings.
While the Crab hitting was active, it was their pitching and defense that kept the Sox scoreless. Trent Fallon and Parker Collins combined to pitch the shutout and allowed four hits through five innings. Houston Schmutz closed out the game in the sixth.
The Crabs totaled eight hits distributed up and down the line-up. Elijah Nichols led the Crabs with two hits and two runs scored, followed by Ricky Muzzy with two runs scored.
The Crabs host the Terrace Cubs at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 27. The double-header will be at South Whidbey Community Park.
