Whidbey Crabs make clean sweep of Sox

In baseball, the Whidbey Crabs resumed MTYAA competition and swept Mountlake Terrace Sox.

The Crabs won 13-3 in the opener and 9-3 in the nightcap of Sunday’s doubleheader.

In the opener, Ricky Muzzy and Parker Collins led the Crabs with three hits each. They were followed by two hits each from Elijah Nichols, Peter Jacobs and Brent Piehler.

Piehler pitched for five innings, too. Then, Houston Schmutz added a nine-pitch final inning to seal the win, 13-3.

The Crabs took a 6-2 lead in a tight game with two in the fourth inning. Mo Hamsa relieved Muzzy on the mound in the fourth to overpower the Sox with seven strikeouts in the last four innings closing out the 9-3 victory.

“It was a total team effort from the top of the batting order to the bottom banging out 28 hits in 60 official at bats for the day to go with our superb pitching and defense,” said Crabs manager Dennis Hunter.

The Crabs are 6-4 on the season and continue play today in Mountlake Terrace against the Thunder before hosting a team from Maltby in a doubleheader on Mother’s Day at the park.
