Journalism student talks about dams at Fishin' Club

January 5, 2012 · 8:12 AM

Sam Lungren will give a presentation on the removal of the Elwha River dams at the Fishin’ Club’s meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at the M-Bar-C Ranch in Freeland.

Lungren will discuss the history of the dams, the fight to get rid of them and the future designs to restore the salmon to the upper river. A 2007 graduate of South Whidbey High School, he studied journalism at Gonzaga University and wrote his undergraduate thesis on the issue.

Lungren is now pursuing a master’s degree in environmental journalism at the University of Montana. As an avid steel-head and salmon fisherman, he is elated to one day ply this river that has been buried for so many years.
